So it was with some trepidation we stuck them on the alignment table at our favourite Taiwanese frame builders to check alignment. 

Things weren't good. 

If that's as good as samples come, we'd not really like to think what production would have looked like.

Frame :: On-One Inbred 29 frame
We used our box stock Inbred 29er frame – the exact same model that we sell to you as a frame only. No corners cut or dodgy things changed. This is a box stock "aftermarket" frameset with bits bolted on. It comes with an ISCG05 chainguide mount if you want to hop things up further after you've bought it. Teal or Orange options.

Fork :: Rock Shox Recon Silver TK 100mm Solo Air

Wheelset :: On-One 24mm rim, with SRAM X-7 Hubs. Stainless Spokes with On-One Smorgasbord tyres
The heart of a good bike, a good set of wheels. Using 24mm rims give a good solid tyre stance, stainless spokes tie the whole thing together well, and SRAM provide the hubs to keep things spinning. Our own new On-One Smorgasbord Trail tyres are a great tyre, and the 2.2in 60A version gives you fantastic grip and performance.

Transmission :: SRAM X5 11-34
Wide range rear cassette gives you a good low bail out gear, and actually is such that it's perfectly possible to run this bike as a 1x9 with the addition of a chain guide. Uprated X7 front mech gives you clearance and performance.

Bar and Stem :: Truvativ Stylo
A 685mm wide trail-ready bar, and 75mm stem gives good contemporary “not scary” handling and perfect poise. On-One Bob-On grips complete the bar package.

Post, Saddle, Clamp :: On-One
Rounding out the parts pick, a 400mm seatpost, test winning Bignose saddle and a proper QR seatclamp.

If we consider a frame to be loaded at the points as shown, let's look at what happens to the various tubes.

The rear stays do splay a little if left unsupported. But they bow outwards. There is FEA done to show this. They don't bend the other way.

S bend stays make people think they are springy as they look a bit like a spring, but a spring is actually a coiled up torsion bar. It's not curved like that for compliance as such.
